Who We Are

We are an Institutional Review Board (IRB)—an independent committee established to ensure the protection of human subjects involved in research. Our board includes at least five members with diverse professional and personal backgrounds, including scientists, non-scientists, and individuals not affiliated with the institutions we serve. This diversity helps us approach each review with a balanced and thoughtful perspective.

Our Role

Our primary responsibility is to ensure that all research involving human participants is conducted ethically and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Before any research can begin, it must be reviewed and approved by our IRB. We examine each study’s design, methods, risks, and consent processes to ensure that participants are treated with respect and protected from harm.

But our work doesn’t stop once a study is approved. We provide ongoing oversight throughout the life of a project, monitoring progress, reviewing amendments, and responding to unexpected events. If issues arise, we may require changes to study procedures to protect participant safety and ensure ethical conduct.

Education & Compliance

We believe that strong ethical research begins with knowledge. That’s why we develop and implement comprehensive training programs for researchers and staff. These programs cover federal regulations, institutional policies, and best practices in human subject protection. We also maintain detailed training records to ensure continued compliance and accountability.

Why it Matters

Human subjects research has the power to advance science, improve healthcare, and benefit society—but only if it's conducted responsibly. Our IRB exists to safeguard the rights, dignity, and welfare of research participants while enabling ethical scientific discovery. Through careful review and continuous monitoring, we help maintain public trust in research and promote a culture of integrity and respect.
